Improving community health

In the Latin America and Caribbean region, conditions of poverty, marginalization and exclusion are strongly impacting public health, especially the health of children under five, women, the elderly, and indigenous populations.

Governments, businesses and civil society sectors share the responsibilities of improving health systems, and ensuring greater public access and more affordable care and medicines.

World Vision promotes agreements, initiatives, and programs to provide health care to infants and children, improve child nutrition and ensure public access to clean water and basic sanitation.

These efforts that are currently benefiting over 800,000 people in Brazil, which has the third-highest infant mortality rate in South America (surpassed only by Bolivia and Guyana), In other countries of the region, World Vision is working to address problems of anemia and chronic malnutrition among pregnant women, low birth weights of children, and their increased susceptibility to disease and death.
